Family Moral Values
Many years ago, mothers used to stay at home and take care of their children as the dads went to work to provide for their family. While at home, mothers gave their children homework and other chores to do before going out to play. During those days, there were hardly any video games or computers for children to play games and entertain themselves. Every Sunday, the family would go to church. These were the fundamental family values which formed the foundation of families back then. Children were taught these values when growing up, and parents would be proud if their kids exhibited them everywhere. Hence, family values should consist of certain qualities and actions that are crucial for a family member to uphold. Such include respect, honesty, and trust (Huang and Gove 42). Although debilitation of the family unit may have created family problems, the breakdown of family values has created more problems because if these values are preserved, they can help those in a debilitated system to make important good, morally sound decisions equally.
While growing up, my family taught me that the essential value is respect. Earlier, parents taught their children that they were obliged to respect them, other adults and ourselves. Parents also emphasized the importance of self-respect. However, teenagers nowadays lack these simple values because they have been exposed to negativity in the modern world. They lack the right direction that should come from their parents. Modeling behavior is the most significant aspect of any cultural code (Huang and Gove 43). Rather than observing this, teens have opted to enjoy the freedom to explore technological advancements and the Internet. They are listening to the negative lyrics from modern music, watch inappropriate Television contents, and play highly violent video games. This shows that teens no longer have the sense of direction children in the past exhibited when growing up (Pranis 91). Why put all the blame on the world when modern-day kids do deceptive things? The media have propagated materialism shown by today's teens. Hence, parents should learn from these negative things for them to build robust family values by teaching children the practice of right decision.
In the past, parents placed honesty above most of the policies because not every child would have it.
