Many children today face threats especially when they are part of the problem facing the family. In such cases, when the threats are extreme, it is upon respective courts to deal with such situations. When the court under the investigation finds that these children are under threats, they are put into custody for their safety. According to Jackson and Pecora (2013), after the court has decided on the fate of these children, it is the mandate of the Department of Social Services to ensure that these children are safe from the threats faced. Through the court order, the Department Division of Child Protection Service (DDCPS) places these children in either temporary or permanent homes and ensure that they get both basic provision and parental care just like they would have got from their homes. This process is done until either the problem is solved or these children become old enough to survive on their own (Jackson & Pecora, 2013).
Ways in Improving Placement Services to Children and Families
Children and families that face placement services are unable to access certain finances and properties that may help them to survive on their own. Therefore, it is upon the organizations through the help of their respective government to ensure that these people acquire basic needs such as clothing, food, shelter, education and healthcare as well as parental care and guidance. According to Jackson and Pecora (2013), organizations that are responsible for placement services face various challenges that need to be address for better placement services to be realized. For instance, Summers and Shdaimah (2013) found that the number of these children and families increases on a daily basis, which results to overcrowding of these organizations and centers. This increase therefore makes it difficult for these organizations to respond to these children and family needs.
