Ideal Work Environment Deborah Wilkerson Strayer University BUS 322: Organizational Behavior Professor Dr. Andrea Banto January 16, 2024 Ideal Work Environment Describe a great working environment. A great working environment is one where employees are valued as an important part of the organization. Given the importance of employees in helping an organization attain its goals, it makes sense that respect, tolerance of diverse opinions, competitive compensation and benefits, and exciting and challenging work characterize the workplace environment. Respect is important in helping the employees feel they are important to the organization. In a workplace where leaders and managers respect employees, it is unlikely for many to leave, which contributes to minimizing turnover rates. A great working environment also tolerates diverse opinions. People of diverse ages, backgrounds, and groups characterize the modern workforce. This means that the contemporary workplace environment is likely to have people with different opinions and ideas regarding workplace procedures and norms. Such diversity can significantly promote creativity and innovation, enhancing organizational performance. In essence, tolerance and embrace of such different perspectives are important in building a workplace culture of inclusion where every member feels like they belong. In addition, a workplace environment cannot be great without competitive salaries and benefits. While other factors, such as respect and inclusion, can help employees feel motivated, salaries and benefits form an extremely important part of the motivating package. It is important for employees to feel that the organization pays them enough for their input. The salaries and benefits the company provides should match industry standards. Finally, a great workplace environment provides employees with exciting and challenging work. When the work is repetitive and not challenging enough for employees, dissatisfaction, and complacency can creep in. Employee dissatisfaction can limit productivity, which can consequently affect the organization's overall performance. Therefore, the organization needs to design work to be exciting and challenging to keep employees active and engaged. Evaluate specific policies and practices that create a cohesive organizational culture. A cohesive culture in an organization does not happen by chance. An organization must deliberately implement specific policies and practices to create a cohesive culture. An important practice in creating a cohesive organizational culture is crafting a relatable, memorable, and aspirational mission statement (Howard, 1). Such a mission statement simplifies the strategic direction and provides the members of the organization with guidance, unity, and purpose.. Another key practice is developing strong core values that align with organizational personality (Howard, 1). In essence, if the organization seeks to build a cohesive culture characterized by collaboration, its core values must reflect it. In this case, core values are the building blocks of the organization, and they matter a lot to employees (Howard, 1). Given their value to employees, a set of specific core values can bring employees together. For example, if fairness and respect de...
