Research Paper Instructions:

The student will identify an intervention that is being used in clinical practice. The student is to create a question in the PICO format to initiate research of evidence related to this intervention. The student will review the evidence underlying that intervention and write a paper to summarizing the evidence that is found. The following question should be answered in the paper: What evidence was FOund? Is there an additional intervention that is supported vs. the intervention that the student researched? Reference must be sited. Five step of the evidence based practice 1. Ask the clinical question using the PICO format. P- patient population of interest i-intervention or area of intrest c-comparision of interest or comparision group o-outcome of interest 2. Collect the most relevant and best evidence 3. Critically appraise and synthesize the evidence 4. Integrate all evidence with one's clinical expertise, patient preferences, and values in making a practice decision or change. 5. Case
The diagnosis for my patient is as follows: He is 66 years old, has signs of bony enlargement, bony tenderness, crepitus, no palpable warmth and experiences stiffness that lasts for less than 30 minutes. Based on these diagnostics, I have the option to administer non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) and acetaminophen or hyaluronic acid injections.

Is the administration of Non-steroidal anti-inflamatory drugs (NSAIDS and acetaminophen more effective in treating osteoarthritis than hyaluronic acid injections?
Osteoarthritis, also known as degenerative joint disorder, is an abnormality which involves joints degeneration including subchondral bone and articular cartilage. The main objective of this paper is to determine whether to prescribe nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and acetaminophen or the use of hyaluronic acid injections, for patients above 55 years suffering knee osteoarthritis. I also want to establish the following: What are the side effects of using each of the above treatment? How do the above treatments work to treat knee osteoarthritis?
Osteoarthritis mostly affects people of the old age- above 65 years. Some of the common symptoms of knee osteoarthritis include pain in the knee especially when using the knee, stiffness that improves after 30 minutes of activity, swelling, crepitus and limp. In the older stages, patients may also experience varus and valgus deformities.
Non-steroidal anti-inflamatory drugs (NSAIDS) have proven to relieve pain by a half and also improve the patient’s mobility by around 60%. The most effective of the NSAIDS include diclofenac (100-150mg) and naproxen (500-750mg). In the UK, about 25 million prescriptions are written every year 4% of which is NSAIDS. The use of acetaminophen has proved to be effective in relieving osteoarthritis pain. However it should be used cautiously to patients who consume alcohol on a daily basis. In addition to relieving knee pain, the use of NSAIDS has been proven to be very effective in reducing hip pain....
