Jersey City Board of Education (JCBOE) operates in the education sector. It offers education in both primary and secondary schools. The organization serves the community in northeastern New Jersey, in Hudson County, which is predominantly urban. The estimated population between 2010 and 2016 for Hudson Country is 677,983 residents. 37.5% of individuals in Hudson County aged 25 years and above have a bachelor’s degree and higher (Ballotpedia, 2019). The median income in the County is $59,741. 65.1% of residents in Hudson County are white. These are followed by Hispanic or Latino who comprises of 43.2%. African Americans and Asians form 15.0% and 15.9% respectively (Ballotpedia, 2019). The percentages add up to more than 100% because some individuals belong to more than one race.
JCBOE has maintained good relations with the community around. This can be demonstrated by the increased confidence that parents have on the organization. In order to achieve its objectives of offering education to all students, JCBOE has partnered with other community organizations. For instance, JCBOE offers specialized programs to learners with special needs. Achieving this entails partnering with other organizations like New Jersey City University, Jersey City Medical Center, and RWJ Barnabas Health among others (healthier JC, 2019)
Recently, JCBOE has been facing challenges with the proposed reduction in local government expenditure on schools. The state Schools Development Authority (SDA) has, in the past ten years underfunded the district with more than $1 billion meant for approved construction. SDA has instead released $362 million over the same period (Rosario, 2019). The move has adverse effects on JCBOE students because it reduces their chances of being constructive members of the workforce.
