A person’s development of the ethical code of conduct across various aspects of life is dependent on their ability to embrace the demands of various components that are characteristic of their growth and development. The components of a person’s moral development play a significant role in developing the process through which they make decisions to do that which is considered good at both the personal and collective levels in society. The five main components upon which individuals form and improve on their ethical behavior or performance include vocation, personal values, character, moral identity, and spiritual orientation. Provided herein is a reflection of the roles played by the outlined components in developing my ethical behavior and choices in life.
What motivates my ethical decisions?
I have always found it easy and enjoyable to help or rather give a helping hand to those in need of assistance especially in areas of my expertise. In my elementary and high school levels, for instance, I enjoyed helping fellow students with academic problems or tasks from some subjects or topics which I found easy to understand. It is through such instances that I have developed a passion for teaching or encouraging others to face their challenges or difficult situations. The experiences have set me on a path of becoming a counselor, mentor, teacher or trainer as I enjoy helping other people. Vocations or occupational areas allowing me to help other individuals such as the teaching profession would play an integral role in developing and executing my moral obligation to other members of society. Another key component of life that is integral to or rather shape my moral or ethical behavior is the personal values that I have embraced during my transition in life from childhood to a young adult.
