Returning to the idea of “standing on the shoulders of giants” as a metaphor for knowledge creation and development, communicating the results of a research study is how knowledge is shared. This is the next step in the process. In addition to the “mechanics” of writing, researchers must develop effective strategies to communicate and share the findings with diverse audiences. Careful planning is required if your report is to have or make an impact. Research, then, brings additional opportunities for advocacy. The research findings add to the professional knowledge base and can inform policy and practice changes—a critical aspect of knowledge transfer. Your focus this week is developing your own research plan as you complete your final assignment—the Community-Based Research Project Proposal.
