The general status of any given place usually depends on its accessibility to healthcare. Healthcare constitutes an important aspect of any properly functioning society. Cape Fear Valley Hospital is a 200-bed capacity started in 1956. The hospital serves the entire population of Cumberland County, which has a population of approximately 300,000. The rapid growth of the hospital has ensured that it also provides medical services to Bladen and Hoke counties as well. The hospital has grown over the years, and its revenue growth and market share can show this. The hospital’s mission is “provide exceptional health care for all our patients.” Currently, the company has a 916-bed capacity serving six counties in the entire Southeastern North Carolina. Annually, the hospital serves approximately 935 000 patients making it one of the biggest healthcare facilities in the region (Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, 2022). The hospital has 3000 employees and reported a staggering $2.7 billion in revenue in the 2022 fiscal year. For such a size hospital, this is quite a huge windfall and testament enough that the management of the institution is heading in the right direction.
The four-frame model outlined by Bolman and Deal essentially emphasizes that leaders of organizations need to look at organizational issues from four perspectives, referred to as frames. These frames are; structural, political, symbolic, and human resource. The structural frame is mainly focused on the task to be done and is typically based on strategy. The human resource aspect is based on the personal needs of the people. It, therefore, focuses on ways in which people can be satisfied with their needs so as to carry out their duties to the best possible outcome. The political aspect focuses on the acknowledgment that people can have differing views or opinions within the workplace setup and that there is always the need to ensure they keep working together despite the differences. It is, therefore, more of a conflict resolution frame. The symbolic aspect focuses on the people's need for some form of sense, identity, and meaning while at work. It, therefore, addresses aspects such as recognition and celebration of excellence within the company.
The Human Resource (HR) Frame of Bolman and Deals prioritizes meeting people's needs more. Its main focus is on meeting employees' needs for professional growth, personal growth, and job satisfaction while simultaneously giving them the power and chance to do their responsibilities successfully.
