The article focuses on the mainstream issue of ethics within the realm of artificial intelligence (AI). For some years now, people have been talking about the issue of ethics in AI and how it has been neglected. Apparently, AI companies have been ignoring calls to ensure that their systems are ethically sound. Additionally, a majority of the companies have been issuing excuses which have so far helped them not to be held accountable. But, in their article, Davenport and Katyal (2018) offer clear ways through which organizations can integrate ethics into AI. The first thing the authors talk about is making AI ethics a board-level issue. The main idea here is that certain ethical issues in AI should cause or lead to the involvement of the board. The second issue the authors handle is the promotion of fairness by avoiding bias in AI applications. The debate on algorithmic bias sparked the outcry. Apparently, some AI applications are biased, and this is credited to algorithmic bias which companies knowingly or unknowingly agree to. The third point is leaning towards disclosure of AI use. Well, customers need to be notified of the use of applications if they are ever to use them. This means that companies need to ensure that customers are well aware of the use of the applications they are buying. The issue of privacy is also handled here, and the authors appear to be advising companies to tread lightly on the issue of privacy.
