* Based on the results of the survey, my strongest sub-scale relative to the global norm was ‘knowledge of coaching and counseling’. I was a able to get a score of 17, which is higher than the global average of 14.6, which showed a %difference of 16.4%
2 Describe a situation where you used this skill effectively (approx. 75 words)
* One of the times when I was able to use my knowledge of coaching and counseling was the time when one of my colleagues was having trouble finishing the task that he was assigned to. Each of us were given different task, where each of the tasks would constitute a whole. While I could simply take on the task since I have the expertise, I realized that he was very interested in the topic and is simply having troubles since he was not familiar with it. Thus, what I did was coached him on how to proceed, set some milestones, and gave him advice rather than take the task for myself. We were able to get a good grade for that assignment.

3 What is the difference between Coaching and Counseling? (approx. 50 words)
* On the one hand, coaching is focused on setting goals and developing strategies to help the one being coached achieve time. It presupposes that the person is capable but simply needs some mentorship. On the other hand, counselling, focuses on the past and the present, where some problems during the past could be addressed to improve the quality of life.
4 When is it appropriate to Coach a subordination and when is it appropriate to counsel? (approx. 50 words)
* It would be appropriate to coach a subordinate when you believe that he/she is indeed capable but is just having problems with the planning and execution. In the example above, this problem was portrayed in his ‘unfamiliarity’ with the task. On the other hand, counseling is more appropriate when there are deeper problems that could be the source of the lack in performace (i.e., family problems).
