Some of the main characters in the film were Cassie Jaye, Paul Elam, Warren Farrell, Katherine Spillar, and Fred Hayward. Cassie Jaye, a filmmaker who has worked with a variety of issues, was the director and creator of the film. In the film, she especially stated that despite being a feminist, her interest in creating the film stemmed from her experiences and her curiosity about the issue. Another main character in the film is Paul Elam. As one of the leading proponents of the movement, Elam has spread the beliefs and ideals of the group through his website named “A Voice for Men.” Additionally, another important character in the film is Dr. Warren Farrell, a speaker, doctor, and author of the famous book entitled The Myth of Male Power. Dr. Farrell was once a well-known feminist who has also explored the topics of men’s liberation and is now one of the leading proponents of the men’s rights movement. Other notable characters in the film are Katherine Spillar and Fred Hayward, who are the Executive Director of Feminist Majority Foundation and Founder of Men’s Rights Inc., respectively.

The reason why the filmmaker put herself into the story is because, is because it is her experience with fighting for the feminist movement that piqued her interest in studying about the MRA. Additionally, it is her ideals towards feminism and his recognition of the needs of men, that made her a credible barometer for the feminist movement.

In the film, several arguments (i.e., biological) and statistics were presented by the characters (and Cassie herself) about how men’s and women’s state circumstances compare to each other. On the one hand, it was discussed how men are more likely to be jailed, addicted to drugs, and be killed in the line of duty, while also less likely receive medical treatment and graduate from school, as compared to men. In fact, in the 2013 survey of the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration, has found out that among 4584 individuals who died due to work-related accidents, 93% were male. Consequently, the speakers have argued that this high mortality rate is due to (1) society’s expectation of men’s roles and achievement and the (2) fear that losing a job would also result to losing a loved one (Farrell). Fighting for the inequalities mentioned above, among others, are the main focus of the MRM.
