Chinese Communism, the film To Live
The great proletarian Cultural Revolution in 1966 by Mao Zedong transformed China changing the cultural life in the country when the communist party ascended to power. The film "To Live" highlights the life of one family in China. Xu Fugui and his family represent some of the issues that led to the creation of a communist society in the Peoples Republic of China (Chen, 1994).
"To live" presents a journey of Chinese people as the movie transcend four decades of China's historical events from the civil war, the great leap forward and the cultural revolution. The film focus on the lives of Xu Fugui and his family, who started as wealthy people but Fugui ended being a gambler; he lost everything including his house. Fugui was later drafted to fight for Kuomintang, he left his family for civil war, leaving behind his wife and his children struggling to survive (Chen, 1994).
