Film Music Research Paper Fifty Shades Of Grey Movie

Movie Review Instructions:

Select a movie, write about the music in the movie, it is NOT a movie review in reality, and the following is the requirement, I copied and pasted it from MUSIC 004: Film Music Research Paper
Your research paper can be on a film of your choosing.
Since this paper is so short (5-7 pages), I have tried to make this rubric as detailed as I can.
You will have to adhere to the format described in this handout in order to receive a quality grade.
Your name and title of the paper should appear on the top of the first page and all pages should be
numbered. Your paper must have 1-inch margins, standard double-spaced line spacing, and be printed out
in 12 pt Times New Roman.
You may use either footnotes or parenthetical citations, and you may use any of the standard
citation methods: Chicago/Turabian, APA or MLA. Choose the method you are most familiar with, and
remember to cite
all
of your sources. Every failure to cite a source that you should have cited will be
penalized with a five-point reduction. (If in doubt, cite!)
Part 1: Introduction and Background: 2-3 full pages (minimum)—50 points
• Introduction—10 points
• Clearly-defined thesis—10 points
•Background information—30 points
The first paragraph is your introduction. Somewhere in the first paragraph, you must clearly state
your thesis. (If I cannot find your thesis statement you will lose 10 points, so make sure you have a
recognizable thesis.)
The first paragraph will identify your topic, tell the name of the film,
and summarize the main points you will cover in your paper.
After your introductory paragraph, you should include several paragraphs of background
information about the film. This is your chance to educate the reader about the film, including information
about the director, composer, a brief summary of the plot, and introduce main characters. In your discussion
about director and composer you may highlight other accomplishments. Any information you include in this
section that you learned from books, journals, etc., must be correctly cited. You should have many citations!
Part 2: Score Discussion and Conclusion: 2 to 3 full pages (minimum)—35 points
•Analysis—15 points
•Conclusion—10 points
The second half of the paper should be a discussion about the musical score for the movie. Your analysis
about the score should include discussion about: instrumentation, leitmotivs (themes), regional music, and
songs. In your discussion, consider how the music changes throughout the film. Is there thematic transformation
with the characters? Does the music change with different moods in the film? How does the music accompany
action?
The last paragraph of your paper is your conclusion. Use this space to remind the reader about
your thesis and summarize the main points of your paper. Your last sentence should wrap things up
nicely, not just repeat the thesis.
Part 3: Bibliography (attached to the end of your paper)—10 points
•Accuracy of citations—3 points
•Use of the four types of sources listed below—3 points each
You must provide a bibliography that includes ALL of the sources you consulted in writing your
paper. Each bibliographic entry must be correctly cited. Use the formatting style with which you are
most familiar: Chicago/Turabian, MLA or APA. If you have questions regarding the format of your
citations and bibliography, ask for clarification. Single-spacing is preferred for the bibliography.
Yes, you can use Wikipedia, but
only
to help you get started. There are many scholarly sources
covering topics in American music, and anything you learn from Wikipedia can and should be traced back
to a scholarly source. If you read something in Wikipedia that you cannot trace back to a scholarly
source, ask us for help.
To receive a quality grade, your sources must include at least:
• 3 scholarly sources (Book from Penn State library, article from databases, such as JSTOR, or a pre-
approved online resource) Refer to the Penn State Harrisburg Library website,
https://libraries(dot)psu(dot)edu/harrisburg.
This is an individual project. Students must abide by the academic honesty policy of Penn State
University Harrisburg. Your paper is due in class on
Wednesday,
November 14
. Please refer to the grading
rubric for more details about how I will grade this assignment.
I want to encourage you to confer with me at any point regarding this assignment. You may reserve
office-hour time by email.

Part 1
Premiering on the eleventh day of February 2015, the Fifty Shades of Grey movie was released for public viewership by Focus Features and Universal Pictures two days later. Although many critics gave it negative reviews, it went ahead to become a box office hit, and grossing over $570 million (Hill, 2016). The screenplay of the erotic drama production was written by Kelly Marcel. It was based on the novel penned by E.L James and published in 2011. The director of the film is Sam Taylor-Johnson and it features Christian Grey, a billionaire businessman and a college graduate going by the name of Anastasia Steele as the main characters (Taylor-Johnson et al., 2015). The two, while greatly different, are drawn together into a relationship characterized by sadomasochism. While their story is entirely exciting and passion-driven, the choice of music plays a great part in its success or failure to make a memorable mark on the audience. This paper seeks to bring out the use and effect of music on the impression created by the film on viewers. Of importance is the exploitation of original soundtracks created and performed by such as stars as Ellie Goulding and Beyonce. It should be noted that some of the tracks first heard on the film went on to win great acclaim as singles when they were released into the market. Their use in the motion picture will be discussed with a focus on the impact of creating the mood and authenticity of the scenes they are played in.
One of the main characters, Anastasia is 21 years of age and college English literature major. Her first acquaintance with her fellow main character Christian comes about by accide...
