A key ethical tenet in Hinduism is karma, which is the belief that one's thoughts and actions define their current and future life (History.com, 1).
Hinduism is also characterized by the seeking of dharma, a code of living that puts emphasis on morality and good conduct.
2. Founder/Venerated ancestor
The religion has no founder. While many Hindus consider their faith timeless, most scholars place the origins of Hinduism between 2300 BC and 1500 BC (History.com, 1). The migration of Indo-Aryan people into the Indus Valley resulted in a cultural and language blend with the indigenous people and set the foundation for the religion.

Hinduism can be described as henotheistic, which means that while Hindus worship one primary god, Brahman, there are many other gods and goddesses they recognize (History.com, 1). Some of these deities include Devi, Krishna, Shiva, and Vishnu.
