Description.
This piece of art was done by an artist known as Vincent van Gogh, a Dutch post-impressionist painter and influential figure in the world of art. It is titled “Starry Night”. The piece was painted in late June or probably early July of 1889, while admitted at an asylum in Saint-Remy. Vincent’s work is an oil on canvas painting with a length of 92.10 cm and height 73.7 cm CITATION Lee16 \l 1033 (Lee). Its actual texture is rough, offering the painting an extra swirl. It can be characterized as a landscape painting, because the main focus is the natural element of the sky. There is a show of contrast through color which is in size with grand sky, the great bright moon, miniature stars and the petite village. At the bottom-left part of the painting, there is a winding tree trunk that looks like that of an old cypress tree. It has both dark green and brown thick roots. The village is nestled by some rolling hills from a distance. There is an image of a church at the center of the town, tall enough to stretch above the other roof tops.
Analysis
There is a large cypress tree that is covering most of the foreground, the village full of houses makes up the middle ground, and finally, the background is made up by the sky and mountains. Two primary colors have been used, blue and yellow.
