Introduction
The issue of racism is still evident in institutional, social and economic discourses; an aspect that calls for proper inclusion of affirmative policies aimed at tackling the challenges associated with the discriminations surrounding this problem. The contemporary American society came up with initiatives of anointing the issue of racism particularly after the election of Barrack Obama as the president of the United States. However, the existence of a wider array of cultural and legal disputes in the past ten years clearly reveals the new dimension of the issues of racial segregation gaining traction.
Anti-white prejudice is a challenge that has been experienced in institutional settings particularly after the onset of the regime of President Barrack Obama. For instance, the “Diversity Bake Sale" initiated by the UC Berkeley College in which tiered pricing was imposed played a significant role in revealing the issue of White discrimination in the current era (Mendoza-Denton). According to Mendoza-Denton, the institution chose to offer the same quantity and quality of cupcake at $2 for the whites, $1 for Latinos $0.75 for the Blacks. On the other hand, members of the female gender were accorded a discount of $0.25 without consideration of their racial boundaries (Mendoza-Denton). A review of these prices leaves the onlooker with the inherent question: the question has been on why the whites should be charged a greater fee than that paid by buyers purchasing the same product offered in similar quantities and quality. In my opinion, the tiered sale initiative does not only segregate the targeted consumer segments based on their racial characteristics but also goes a long way in revealing the issue of gender-based segregation at a point in time where women are no longer considered as weak creatures in the society.
