If readers fail to apply their knowledge, experiences, and emotions to a text, it is a text-to-self. Arguably, teachers play a significant role in assessing ways that students utilize knowledge in understanding a text (Reed p. 39). According to schema theory, readers can utilize their previous emotions, knowledge, and understanding as part of their learning process.
What does a text mean apart from a reader?
A text can have a wide variety of meanings based on the various forms of interpretations. Reed argues that the context of a reader and author is a significant determinant of the meaning of a text (p. 34). Although readers interpret a text at various levels of understanding, some of the reading techniques can overlap.
