Introduction
The author of the book the A Modest Proposal reveals the problems that the Irish citizens were experiencing in Britain. The families of the Irish children were poor and not capable of giving their children a decent life. The author further reveals that the families spend most of their time on the streets begging for a few pennies. The pennies they got did not help them better their lives. For a long time, few measures were been put in place by the government to try and solve the problem of a third of its population. Giving citizens decent lives is important for any nation because it can reduce the poverty levels.

The author is unhappy with fact that little has been done to curb the situation. For that reason, he gives his own suggestion on how to solve the issue. He suggests that the rich people of the land should eat the children of the poor (Atkins, 57). Once they eat the children of the population would decrease and it will be easy for the government to provide for the remaining population. He further argues that it is a good way of reducing the number of abortions taking place annually.
His view, however, may not solve the problem and may instead worsen the situation. Eating the children and aborting are both crimes which involve the killing of the innocent. It would, therefore, mean that in both situations the lives of human beings are not respected.
