As Tim reaches Dr. Hobart’s house, he is very careful of his movements as not to get the attention of the British and the Tories. After losing his sympathy to them, he no longer has pity if they all get killed or caught because of what he saw. Especially after seeing Ned’s head fly into the air because it is a brutal way to kill anyone.
This is a sad day for Tim because he had been working overtime with his mom to keep the tavern in business despite of all the chaos. Amidst the hardships they encounter because most of their customers only pay with commissary notes and the value will depreciate in case they lost the war, Tim and his Mom are resilient. They do not want to give up the tavern because it is their source of income. At the same time, regardless of who wins when the war is over, the tavern will still be in business because of their willingness to continue.
The realization of Tim as he speaks to the British army shows his knowledge in speaking while speaking to him because he considers himself as part of the Tories.
