The internet has provided individuals with access to information of diverse nature. While there are direct benefits associated with access to this wealth of information, many disadvantages might arise from the situation. Notably, the internet is changing how people think and handle different aspects of their lives. The presence of Google is significantly making people stupid, unable to think critically and understand issues. As a source of information for many individuals worldwide, Google and the Internet limit people's ability to think and create solutions. Google and the internet have negatively changed individuals and rendered them unable to think and create solutions.
According to Carr, many people spend their time online, searching and surfing for information to assist them with different questions. Instead of critically thinking through their challenges and creating appropriate solutions, people depend on the internet to find these solutions. Bayer (1) also argues that the internet has changed how we think. This is because people are never expected to work harder to gain knowledge. This is perceived as an advantage by many people. The internet provides people with instant access to different information. Research consumed longer periods as investigators spent much time in libraries in the past. However, this reality has changed because Google searches provide quick access to information, guaranteeing faster completion of studies that would take weeks, months, or years to complete (Carr 2). While this might be perceived as a blessing, it becomes a curse because researchers lack the practical realities or knowledge of the propositions they make. The internet is considered a universal medium to disseminate information, but it impedes many people from learning the practical aspects of important issues in their respective disciplines.
