Wuthering Heights and Victorian literature
The era of Victorian literature writings comes with much idealisms and realism. There are mixes and similarities that make them vary in books and other publications. Their poems have apparent drifts by the writers. These changes do not interfere with themes and elements which include the moral purpose, love and romance, imperialism and realism in life (Amigoni, 67). Wuthering Heights is an example of a literary work produced during the same time. The people, as portrayed in the book, were status-conscious, with Catherine leading in portraying sophistication. It is necessary to analyze how these issues came out in the book. It also shows how the theme fits as an element of Victorian Literature.
Catherine has fallen in love with Heathcliff, whom the father came with from Liverpool. He is an adopted son of the father. As the writer puts it, Catherine is mad about the man. Because of frustrations of the friend, he does not appear to be in love with the lady, Catherine. These turns of events lead to beatings and molestation by Catherine's brother Hindley (Fegan, 9). He leaves Wuthering Heights in what complicates the love affair. In the Victorian period, writers were real in matters of love. These do not end the love issues that are afflicting Catherine. The complex nature of love is always the center stage for different developments.
After the mistreatment of Heathcliff, he seeks revenge but then disappears. Nobody is sure whoever will receive the wrath of his revenge; Catherine or the brother. Love stories are in most cases punctuated by very sad endings. The violent scenes of revenge are a typical example of what used to happen in the Victorian period. Towards the termination of the affairs in Wuthering Heights, Catherine marries Edgar, in what resembles a love triangle. Two major controversies arise, if Edgar was in love with Catherine at first and whether Heathcliff truly loved Catherine. The problem here is an approach of vengeance that is developed, in a number of literary works and represents behavior in the community people stay in.
Love has developed a shield against harmful discernments of obliteration against personal identity. People's characters are major concerns as it influences their choices of partners. It is apparent that Catherine did not intend to have Edgar as the husband, as shown in the novel.
