George Washington
George Washington, one of the founding fathers of the United States of America, was very vocal in his disdain of the U.S. having lasting relationships with other countries. This was clear because, during his farewell address, Washington took his time giving reasons why he felt the U.S. should refrain any permanent alliances. He believed in a free America and one that could stand on its own and even fight for what it stands for. He also saw the alliances as quite compromising and therefore, sought to have an America that will steer clear of all and any entanglements or alliances. Foreign relations was one of the most contentious issues during the French Revolutionary Wars which was fought between the British and the French. George Washington saw any relations the country might have with other countries as dangerous, and he thought it best to air his views during his farewell address.
One could say that he had foreseen the country’s bright future and therefore, thought it best to propel or be vocal of a policy that would ensure the United States was not drawn any issues of global nature. More than a century after Washington died, the U.S. did adopt the isolationist policy which meant that the country was not involved in any conflicts or wars in Europe or any other parts of the world. However, the U.S. did continue to protect its interests around the world, but it opted to stay out of any issues Europe had.
