Introduction
The Asian Americans who migrated to America from the Philippines during the depression, experienced some of the most difficult times in the American history.The great depression was a tough time to the global economy much like the 2008 economic meltdown affected the world. However, at the time, human rights in America were still largely underdeveloped and so were the civil rights. Immigrants coming from the different parts of the world were experiencing the rough nature of human nature at its most uncivilized stages, before the civil rights came to be. Effects of the great depression also played a great factor in the aspect of volatile human ties among major communities in the west. For the Filipinos, who were streaming in from Philippines, they were met with harsh rejection from the American nationals. Most of them were treated less than animals and the public policies were openly discriminative of foreigners. For CarlosBulosan, one of the immigrants that came through at the time, life in America held the promise of a better life like most of the immigrants from the wider Asian continent, but that was not the ultimate case.Bulosan, like most of the workers were treated with disdain.
Thesis statement: Despite the promise of a better life in America Asian immigrants were treated like animals, with disdain and malice by the American nationals with the help of the government.

Bulosan managed to make one of the most intriguing pieces that have outlived most of the content that was written during the great depression. This is mainly due to the fact that, most of the content at the time from the immigrants was highly cushioned. Any immigrants that had something to say about the fact that they were living in deplorable conditions, was highly sanctioned and most of the content never came to the light.Bulosan came up with one of most influential content in the early 20th century that intrigued most of the immigrants living in America. For most immigrants, they were either experiencing the pressure from the white employers, who took them for granted. Some of them were actually treated like animals.
Signs that disallowed dogs and Asian immigrants to certain premises, were a common phenomenon and more so the Filipinos.Bulosan, in the America Is in the Heart, combines the elements of fiction and narrative.
