Reform, Politics, and Expansion
American Civil War is one of the heated issues of world history. The war ended in Spring, 1865 when Robert E. Lee surrendered the last major Confederate army to Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Courthouse on April 9, 1865. A century after it has ended, there still arouse opposing ideas presented by scholars as to what started the bloodshed.
One theory, and probably the most accepted, is the moral issue of slavery when Southern political leaders resist the Northern’s attempts to block the expansion of slavery in the West. Examining the pre-war timeline starting from the Declaration of Independence by American colonies seeking for political independence from Great Britain and duly adopted by the Congressional Congress on July 4, 1776, many scholars would not neglect the idea that the Civil War, indeed, was inevitable, with slavery was only of little consequence.
The Revolution, which created the United States, left two conflicts on the sovereignty of the states and the acceptance of slavery with the people pressing for equal rights. It was not established whether every state holds power or authority across its land or a congregated right is imminent with the entire United States with one law governing the land. North and South have sprouted opposing stands on politics added by their imminent cultural differences. These factors led to a division and eventually sparked the Civil War.
