John Adams
John Adams was born in 1735 and became one of the founding fathers of the United States of America. John Adams was a lawyer by profession based in Massachusetts. He was the second president of the independent United States of America between 1797-1801. His other occupations included; authorship, statesmanship, and he also served as diplomat to France at one point in his political career. Adams is among the few presidents who have served a single term in office and lost to Thomas Jefferson in 1801 after one of the nastiest and mud-slinging campaigns in U.S history.
John Adams was the representative of Massachusetts colony, one of the thirteen British colonies in America, during the second continental congress in 1775. At the time he was 40 years old, and he played a key role in persuading the Congress to declare independence to America. Among others, he helped Thomas Jefferson author the declaration of independence. He authored the Massachusetts constitution which is still used today, making it the longest serving constitution in the United States.
John Adams has interesting facts about himself as a statesman and later in his life. He was the first president to reside in the Executive Mansion for the President (White House). He also advocated that Benjamin Franklin is referred to as ‘his highness’, a move that Congress watered down. He was a great pen pal and exchanged over 1100 correspondences with his wife while still in Europe. He died on the same day (July 4th, 1826) with Thomas Jefferson who was a fellow patriot but bitter political rival CITATION Reb04 \l 1033 (Stefoff).

Thomas Jefferson was born on April 14, 1743, and the representative of the Virginia British colony in the second continental congress. He represented the Virginia colony when he was only 32 and charged with the responsibility of drafting the Declaration of Independence. He had several occupations as a statesman, farmer, author, journalist, philosopher, and architect.
