The Cyrus cylinder documented his conquest of Babylon in 539 B.C, while also highlighting features that characterized ideal kingship. Setting a good example should then be a top priority by liberating the people without infringing their freedom. According to Cyrus, a king ought to cater to the welfare of the people, even for the conquered and this includes respecting their religious beliefs.
