Runner’s World Magazine prides itself with an array of articles aiming to educate athletes on the importance of diet. The items are also beneficial to non-athletes who are keen on their physical and mental health. Most of them enlighten individuals on proper dieting and exercises. One article in Runner’s World Magazine that focuses on runners’ nutritional health is titled ‘Eat Like an Elite: Teresa McWalters’. This article highlights the benefits she receives from some of her meals according to the nutrients that they contain.
Teresa McWalters is a three-time Olympic trials qualifier. Part of her success is attributed to the adhering to the right diet. She avidly avoids processed or packaged foods, and fancies her handmade snacks instead. Those are cooked of homemade granola, almond butter bars and banana or carrot-zucchini-apple bread. Her breakfast meal consists of Greek yoghurt, flax seeds, home-made granola and spirulina powder. For lunch, Teresa takes a bunch of kale, tofu or some cooked grains, and half of an avocado. She emphasizes that the avocado is mandatory in her lunch time meal ("Eat Like An Elite: Teresa Mcwalters").
During dinner, Teresa McWalters takes a huge pile of gently cooked vegetables. She also makes turkey-chicken sausage or chicken, and quinoa/brown rice/brown rice pasta in a bowl. It is evident that she watches her portions as the serving is nothing more than a bowl. Additionally, she loves sweet potatoes. Once in a while, she diversifies with Southeast Asian dishes. As mentioned earlier, her breakfast consists of Greek yoghurt. It contains proteins, carbohydrates, fat, sodium, and calcium. The difference between Greek yoghurt and natural yoghurt lies in the manufacturing process. The former is very thick and creamy. It owes this characteristic to the fact that the whey has been strained off. For that matter, Greek yoghurt contains less sugar and carbohydrates.
