Composer’s Life
He is considered by most music enthusiasts as one of the world’s greatest music composers. According to Bio.com (2012), Ludwig Van Beethoven was born in the German City of Bonn, in the then Electorate of Cologne, which was a realm of the Roman Empire. His exact date of birth may be shrouded in uncertainty, though historical references provide his exact date of baptism, which was on 17th December, 1770. Because most babies were baptized 24 hours after their birth, most historians will therefore, agree that 16th December is perhaps the closest guess with reference to Beethoven’s date of birth. Nevertheless Beethoven himself strangely believed that he was born in 1772.
Ludwig Van Beethoven was born into a family of three, his parents being Johann Van Beethoven and Maria Magdalena. His father as stated by the Encyclopedia of World Biography (2012) was a court singer who struggled with alcoholism. Beethoven’s grandfather (Kapellmeister Ludwig van Beethoven) on the other hand, was great musical success and a household name in Bonn. It was Beethoven’s father who began teaching him to play instruments such as the piano keyboard and violin. His father constantly abused him in his teaching tactics, something that had a vast impact on his life. Beethoven suffered from deafness in his early years in Vienna, and by 1820, he was unable to communicate verbally with any person. He died in 1827, unhappy, frustrated and unmarried.
