Introduction
Any organization formed to provide either products, services or both to a specific target market of choice for or not for profit purposes, needs to be structured by its sole proprietor(s) to a point where it will function efficiently before its inception. Being that any product that finds its way into the market must undergo a manufacturing process; it is important that there are people present within an organization to ensure that this process is effectively completed (Ilieş & Gavrea 2008). An organization that is fully functional needs a panel of people that oversee the production process and another group that executes the duties needed for that process to be completed successfully. In any situation where there are processes involving a group of people in an organization, certain rules, regulations and guidelines must be dictated to ensure that the objectives of the organization are reached in the shortest time possible and with a consistency in results based on the initial plans of the organization’s management. Through these rules and guidelines, the members of staff needed to perform in the everyday duties of an organization exhibit certain behavioral characteristics based on the guidelines provided to them by the organization (Barney, 1986).
Organizational culture is a system that originates from shared beliefs, values and assumptions within an organization’s staff based on the guidelines that dictate the company’s day to day activities. This culture has an effect on the way employees behave, dress, act, think and respond to the organization. Organizational culture also creates an overall image of the company to the public based on how the members of the organization perform their duties towards a specific goal. An organizational culture is present in any organization (Wei et al, 2014). However, the nature and efficiency of organizational culture is not similar in every organization due to the different objectives, products, and services that different organizations specialize in (Mohr et al., 2012). In every organizational community, even without an intentional goal to come up with a culture, the social aspects of different members within an organization will lead to certain behavioral characteristics in their bid to satisfy an organization’s objectives and earn an income. The way in which members of staff within an organization interact during the execution of their duties determines the organizations level of performance towards it goals.
The performance of an organization can be either strong or weak. Organizational culture leads to strong performance within a company if the nature of the organization’s guidelines creates a working environment that values its employees, their decisions, and certain aspects of operation that ensure maximum output, motivation and projected results (Wagner III & Hollenbeck, 2014).
