Scriptpad case study
ScriptPad is a medical prescription application created to aid in reduction of errors occurring from manual prescriptions. The app is preferred as an alternative means to electronic prescription and health records system. This case study aims to evaluate the several environmental factors favoring the adoption of the app, the difficulty doctors and physicians have in accepting it and a possible move by the inventor before taking it to the market.
Q1. Several environmental trends are working to ScriptPad’s favor. According to the company’s founder, Shane Taylor, more than 7,000 deaths occur in U.S. alone due to errors in medical subscriptions (Bergman, 2014). Therefore, it became eminent to have a more productive and efficient way. ScriptPad assists doctors to make correct medical prescriptions and to avoid unnecessary callbacks from pharmacists for clarifications. ScriptPad also benefited from political intervention when the U.S. government made it a legal requirement for doctors to adopt the use of electronic prescription and health records (Bergman, 2014).
Q2.The adoption of ScriptPad by both pharmacists and doctors will face many challenges due to slow acceptance and resistance to change, experienced in the medical field (Bergman, 2014). Doctors will have to cope with the new method of prescription, have internet connection, and the occasional charging of their power hungry iPhones and iPads. Additionally, doctors will have to incur the cost of purchasing these devices in case they own none, as currently only Apple devices support ScriptPad (Baum, 2011). On the contrary, doctors will benefit immensely from ScriptPad due to availability of financial incentives from the federal government for using electronic health records and prescription systems. The app shall enable the...
