Green urbanism remains an approach that requires a collaboration of urban planners, landscape architects, ecologists, physicists, sociologists, among other specialists in minimizing the consumption of energy, materials and water. The primary objective of this process is directed towards ensuring an efficient use of these resources in each stage of a districts and city's life-cycle including the traction and transportation of material, their assembly, and fabrication in a buildings life.[. It is important that one of the areas learned during the course period remains in the manner in which developers and public agencies engage in the development of affordable housing incorporate the LEED ND Pilot Projects in rating the systems required in the advancement of environmental goals directed towards creating a sustainable neighborhood. LEED ND therefore integrates systems and principles in the process of smart growth, green building and urbanism in the design of neighborhood. An example of a LEED ND Pilot Project can be depicted when JBG Company collaborated with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) in the development of a Twin brook Station. The transit station was oriented to the LEED ND Pilot Project in Rockville Md, an aspect that transformed the commuter parking lot to a Metro Twin Brook station that was designed as a smart growth project.[.
