1 Important and valid design points in Zeisel’s Inquiry by Design:
1 By observing physical traces, researchers can gain a greater understanding of people’s culture, their organizations.
2 Through the observation of physical traces, researchers can gauge whether there is a discrepancy between how people present themselves, and how they want to be seen by others. It also enables researchers to discover what such discrepancy is.
3 Observation of physical spaces is just like participant observation. It enables the researcher to get the feeling for the character of a specific situation.
4 The great thing about observing physical spaces is that it is objective in that the researcher must report what is exactly is in a space, how it is positioned, how it is being used, etc.
5 The disadvantage of observing physical spaces is that researchers might assume that the way he/she feels about the space is the same way how the space is perceived by other people.
