Realism and Romanticism in the writings of Tian Han and LaoShe
Realism is a writing style in literature where a writer presents ideas as they happen in the society. It is also known as verisimilitude. It interprets life aspects through writing. It focuses on the characters, details, objective of the writing and also creating a separation between the author and the narrator. Romanticism on the other hand refers to writing by the use of fiction. It mainly emphasizes on the plot, metaphors, hyperbole and also feeling. Tian Han, a Chinese author, came up with the idea of romanticism in writing through the creation of a society known as Creation Society in the year 1922. When the topic of marriage is raised by her mother, she begins to participate. She tells her mother that she does not want to get married. She wants to stay at home and take care of his grandparents instead (Tian Han 21).
By refusing to get married to the man from the wealthy Chen family, it would mean breaking of Confucian ideals. The Confucian ideal was shared during the Han dynasty. It stated that a daughter was supposed to follow her father before marriage.[Confucianism in the ancient China.]
Liangu argues so much with her father and even swears that she cannot belong to the Chen’s since she has promised Huang that she would ...
