Over the past few years, ICT in most countries has shown their limitations in disaster recovery and rescue in time of emergencies. Careem and Chamindra (2006, p. 1) suggest that the shortcoming of ICT solutions, has been seen in some disasters such as the SARS outbreak in 2003, the Asian Tsunami in the same year and the occurrence of Pakistan earthquake in 2005. During the emergency occurrence of disasters such as fires, floods, earthquake and hurricanes, there should be effective ICT and IT systems that can respond appropriately and manage huge quantities of data about the victims, relief personnel, infrastructure and buildings.
Sahana Eden is one of the FOSS application built and accustomed to promoting the coordination of response and to provide efficient and effective management solutions either before or during a disaster. The introduction of the software has aided the management of disasters by giving an easier platform for responding to the needs of the disaster victims.
