Introduction
Crimes happen when laws are broken. It can be small or big, and the judge or jury gets to listen and decide the best punishment for the offenders. Punishments in crime range from the gravity of the offence and this affects an individual and a community. This essay will look at of crimes and their punishments and give a summary on chapter three crime and delinquencies.
Discuss some (pick one or two from the attachments readings) of these types of crime and what you feel should be consequences for the person(s) that commit these crimes.
White collar crimes are gaining popularity in states in the U.S, they occur amongst the respected and honoured and even influential people in the working class. Cases of defrauding investors, bankrupting employees and clients, identity theft, are among the white collar crimes today. It is considered as a non-violent crime, but the damage it brings is very equivalents to those of violent crimes though some may argue. The cost of leaving people without money yet they have bills to pay, depriving names of big companies due to fraud charges are seen as harm. The justice system punishes these offenders different. Some may feel that that they get too much punishment or too little. First, restitution money is to be paid to the fraud victims, or the government can seize the property that was purchased using the fraud money, turning over any profits that were made from the money that isn’t yours and paying back the money. A jail term should be also given to the offenders. The time to serve will depend on the seriousness of the offence. It can also depend on the offender being a first timer or a recurrent offender. For an offender without a criminal record, the judge could give them probation, suspended jail term or to serve a minimum number of years in jail. These criminals should have their licence revoked. For those criminals that are not citizens, they should be sent back to their county.
Juvenile delinquency is a crime and a social problem that is committed by underage children that have failed to obey the laws. A judge hears the case and decides on the punishment. A punishment for a juvenile delinquent can be house arrest, where the juvenile is required to stay home within certain confinements unless while attending school and counselling sessions.
