It is true that family serves a critical role in the treatment of a person suffering addiction. From John’s discussion, I agree that when an individual is suffering the rest of the family is also suffering. Further, during treatment there are several questions like the addict’s attitude, personal habits, relationships and activities that can best be determined by a family member due to the closeness. Besides, it could be the family members who are creating a hostile environment at home such that the addict cannot stop the behavior due to high-stress levels. In such a case, the family must also be involved to be advised on how to create a conducive environment for the addict as it could help in the process of treatment.

Donald considers that addiction may be a problem that runs in the family. This is evident in many families, how an entire family can succumb to a certain addiction. Therefore, it is important to involve family members in the treatment and in the process they are helped to learn how to prevent any addiction for themselves.
