Livingstone choice of title reflects his belief that the depiction of the history of geography has often been misrepresented. Just as the ideas of scientists have been uncovered and their behavior found questionable, and so are the evaluative frameworks used by historians of geography in reconstructing scientific knowledge. To highlight the need for a rethink on geographical theory is that, focusing on development of the subject matter and less on ‘facts’ of geography. The emphasis on the history of science and its relation to geography show that there is need to look at the developments that have defined geography over time.
