Energy: renewable energy sources

Essay Instructions:

Energy is the lifeblood of a modern world. Energy powers our homes, our businesses, and our economy. However, energy is not free or easily acquired in many parts of the world. Most energy sources require extraction, transportation, and refinement before it is usable in our contemporary economies. Fortunately, we have available two very important categories of energy sources: non-renewable and renewable energy sources. You are probably much more familiar with the non-renewable sources of energy that traditionally include oil, gas, and coal. These sources are very important but they are also problematic from many aspects to include environmental, economic, and health concerns. As a result, energy experts are now focused on new sources of energy from renewable sources that are less problematic, especially from an environmental aspect. If your last name begins with A, B, C, D, or E, you must research solar energy. using the required resources and any additional credible resources that would enhance the strength of your argument, complete the following: Describe one economic and one environmental challenge associated with your assigned energy source. Compare the supply side and demand side issues related to your assigned energy source. Describe one policy that would ensure your assigned energy source would be a major energy source for the USA in the next 50 years.

Although solar energy has impressive potential to increase energy efficiency in today's world, the crucial source of renewable energy has major challenges which relate to economic and environmental aspects. A major economic challenge that solar energy poses is the huge investment required to develop infrastructural framework of renewable energy sources. The huge investment in acquiring suitable renewable sources infrastructure usually increases the cost of distributing renewable electricity. This challenge is mostly observed during the early years of development (Markow, 2010). On the environmental front, environmental experts are particularly concerned that solar energy could cause the warming of the planet as excessive amounts of solar energy are trapped to generate electricity. A significant number of environmentalists are therefore against the idea of venturing into solar energy generation.
Almost every state in the United States have developed specific Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) – which is the percentage representation of a state's power grid that should come from renewable energy sources. For example, the state of California and its legislature introduced RPS in 2002 and ordered that the state meet a minimum threshold of 20% by the same year. The governo...
