“Are Some Emotions Marked “Whites Only”? Racialized Feeling Rules in Professional Workplaces” by Adia Harvey Wingfield focuses on how feeling rules are racialized in different working environments. In every workplace, there exist feeling regulations that employees should follow. These rules control and regulate workers’ interactions such that they occur effectively, efficiently, and smoothly (Wingfield, 2010). The article also reveals that feeling regulations are gendered and those that apply for men are different from the ones that women are supposed to follow. For example, female litigators are usually penalized when they display emotions, such as aggression and anger. However, men in the similar field are expected to display anger and aggression without being penalized. Wingfield asserts that emotional norms are intrinsically gendered and perpetuate the inequality between women and men workers. Besides, students perceive African American female professors to be intimidating, mean, and cold.
