Introduction
Humans are complex beings with varied personalities, opinions, beliefs and characters. Having them live peacefully and relate well with one another is a whole task by itself. Some will want things done in a given way or order, while others will view the same differently and may need to take a different route for the same. The difference in personalities is also a challenge since the behaviors are different, with each personality group handling their things differently. This now calls for a stipulation of rules and regulations or a constitution implemented by the government.
On the other hand, there is a need for a religion that also instills morality and gives the don'ts and do's as per the religion. Government brings about politics, which is considered to be secular while religion is sacred. Looking at each's nature, there is a clear distinction between the two, hence the need for their separation.
Religion and Politics
For any relationship to thrive, respect for each other's interests, beliefs, religion, and opinions is essential. There is no way one will be comfortable seeing what they believe and stand to get underrated and undermined. Some people may be great fans of politics or may want to get a government position to enable them to fight for their rights or whatever reason. Having a mix of politics and religion leaves them pressed between a rock and a hard place since it locks them out in both of them. This may be wrong since they are human and have opinions or views.
Politics and religion cannot mix because each aims at the same thing but use different approaches. Religion works to convince and then control the masses to follow a particular ideology or dogma. Religion achieves this by trying to sway the people into making their own independent decisions using their senses. On the other hand, politics aims at achieving the same through constant coercion and intrigue. To an extent, politics can even involve force to make the masses embrace a particular ideology. Looking at these two approaches, therefore, one can easily note that they are more or less opposing or undermining each other. Viewed through another lens, religion cannot bow down to politics, and vice versa (Welchman, 2015). It becomes quite clear to note that politics and religion cannot be mixed.
Mixing religion and politics is not a good thing also because the two have different ideologies. Religion focuses on achieving control and power through the introduction and focus on divinity. As such, religion exercises its power and control over society by working based on some spiritual power or being, which should not be questioned. Politics, on the other hand, works upon the prevailing needs of the society. Its ideology is to woo the people by using the physical aspects touching on them. As a result, politics can be questioned. The two, therefore, are at loggerheads since the physical and spiritual can't be equated.
