humanities: Compare and contrast Donatello's David and Michelangelo's “David”

Running head: SOCIAL SCIENCES Humanities Name: University: Course: Tutor: Date: Humanities Donatello was a born in 1386 in Florence, Italy and died in 1466 at the age of 80 years while Michelangelo was born in 1475 in Florence, Italy and died in 1564 at the age of 89 years. Donatello’s Sculpture of David was early renaissance while Michelangelo’s David was high renaissance (Drapper, 2000). Donatello statue of David was the first freestanding nude statue in the Christian age and this had a great impact on Renaissance art in Italy. On the other hand Michelangelo’s statue of David was one of the most popular statues in the modern world and was the first time since ancient times that a large statue of a nude that was displayed in the public place. Denatello Statue was made of bronze while the statue that Michelangelo made was sculpted of marble (Drapper, 2000). Moreover ancient Greek sculpututes and Humanist theories influence the statue of David built by Denatello where by his statue exhibited the human body as a well-designed mortal.
