CYBER CRIMES Students’ Name Affiliate University CYBER CRIMES There have been reports of cyber crimes over the years but the rate at which technology advanced these crimes is quite alarming. With the discovery of internet and virtual environments, cyber crimes have increasingly been the concern to business, markets, and government institutions worldwide. In short, cyber crime is an attack on the confidentiality, integrity, and accessibility of information online with the presence of computers and networks (Broadhurst, Grabosky, Alazab, & Chon, 2014). Virtual surrounding makes the unlawful act unpredictable and undetectable creating a lot of chaos on the institutions. There are various categories of cyber crimes; these groups evolve by the introduction of better technology equipment. First, there are the traditional crimes. These crimes are usually committed electronically examples are fraud and forgery. In addition, there is the use of media to convey false information to harm the reputation of an organization, a prominent personality, and or the government (Brenner, 2010). Never the less; there is the most used and most demonstrated act of hacking into various company accounts and even Government institutions. On the internet, there are the hackers who have devised different ways of obtaining passwords and installing monitoring software or even steal company profile information and later use that information against the enterprise (KESSLER & RAMSAY, 2013). Finally, is the platform crime; it is the most feared because its aim is usually based on the structure of businesses and targets various companies’ information systems to gather enough information about those structures. The rumor on cyber Pearl Harbor is one of the most feared attacks in America. The reason is that the government can lose lots of very confidential information to terrorists or rival countries (Wall, 2007). It is a fact that there are very few countries with enough technology and expertise on attacking the United States of America, examples are China and Russia (Palmer, 2014). Though not certain the USA has various law branches handling the matter on cyber security, a department like Home Land Security aims at the provision of degree programs to help produce managers, analysts, and policymakers to help in addressing various threats to national security. The studies majorly are to create the officials to run and analyze task force on numerous attacks; the only shortfall is on the in-depth training of these students on the growth of technology and its effects (Akhgar, Staniforth, & Bosco, 2014). Cyber Pearl Harbor refers to a very rapid attack whose activities mostly go undetected (Sumit & Elliot, 2010). The US has the resources and power to implement laws to curb such attacks; these laws might even stretch to the extent of abusing the liberty law in order to protect the nation from various future cyber attacks. The States is known for its influence and capabilities, but it is a fact that she is not yet ready for such a massive attack. With the various law departments such as the FBI, CIA, NSA, and Home Land Security there is a possibility of creating strategies and policies to help in securing a better law on cyber crimes.
