Abortion has been one of the most controversial topics for decades. The pro-life movement opposes it and believes that fetuses should be allowed to live. However, the pro-choice side says that mothers should be given the right to decide what happens to their bodies. Roe v. Wade ruling should not be overturned and abortion should be legalized, particularly when saving the life of a mother.
Shlomo Brody talks about the Jews’ perspective on abortion. Jewish law prohibits pro-choice and makes it clear that fetuses have the right to life. According to the Jews, procreation is a definitive commandment and an act of promoting life. As such, women have no choice of whether to keep or remove their fetuses. The Jewish law prohibits that they ought to take care of their unborn babies until birth. Jews believe that abortion is one of the most significant ways of degrading human dignity. For instance, halacha prohibits different forms of bodily harm, such as self-lacerations, suicide, and tattoos (Brody, 2018). Regardless of the religion of the doctor or patient, performing an abortion is unjustified by the Jewish law.
The article “Induced Abortion’s Negative Impact on Intimate Relationships” portrays that abortion does not preserve long-term intimate relationships. A study by Vincent Rue, Priscilla Coleman, and Catherine Coyle shows that having an abortion increases the level of stress in relationships and couples believe that they would lead happier lives if they separate. Additionally, abortions increase issues in subsequent relationships. The study also depicts that around 20% of females who have abortions usually experience severe stress after the procedure. If in the case of the United States of America (USA) there exist 1.3 million abortions annually, it means that 20% would be 260,000 women, which is a significant number of women who suffers from severe mental stress in a year (“Induced Abortion’s Negative Impact on Intimate Relationships,” 2009). Besides, having an abortion in the previous relationship has adverse effects in the current one, particularly interpersonal violence, such as threats of assault, actual assault, and violent arguments. 
Judith Thomson’s “A Defense of Abortion” highlights that pro-life movement believes that a fetus is a human since its conception. As such, any effort to terminate a pregnancy entails killing a human, which is immoral. Individuals have a right to life, which means that fetuses should be allowed to live as well. The author argues that even though a mother should be granted the right to choose what happens to her body, she should not be allowed to perform an abortion (Thomson, 2018). The right to the fetus life is more stringent and stronger than the female’s decision on what should happen to her body. For this reason, the life growing in the womb should not be terminated.
The above three articles portray that the pro-choice and pro-life movements have different reasons through which they use to defend the life of the unborn child. For example, pro-life believes that the life of a person begins after conception. On that ...
