Disease transmission routes and an outbreak is becoming one of the threats to humans and the economy at large. In many perspectives, diseases have claimed lives and trauma to the victims of the infected individuals. There are many factors including a culture that facilitates the human exposure to epidemics diseases as highlighted in the movie “And the band played on.” This paper illustrates how fear, politics, capitalism impacts on the government approach to handle and control the epidemics in the movie. Moreover, the review brings the history and origin of AIDs disease and the impacts associated with the mishandling and assumption of these impacts exposed by the key players in the health sectors.
The battle begins at the origin of Aids virus as illustrated in the movie and becomes unknown as some scientist argue that the disease originated from Africa while some think different. This scenario, however, becomes undiscussed by many research scientist and thus blame games and political arguments have added much confusion to the integrity of the source of information.
There is an existing antagonism among the medical research scientist in describing what causes the disease and its origins. Dr. Don Francis, an immunologist, uses his experience from the study of small pox and Ebola virus to figure out what the Aid virus might be. In an attempt to find the solution, their effort becomes meaningless as the key players; the government assumes and just ignores to care about the streaming epidemics of the Aid virus. A state of long procedure for access to support becomes bureaucratic leading to a poor response from the health agencies.
The disease becomes a challenge to the gay community as they have inadequate skills to realize what the disease might be. Fear looms in this scenario thus exposing the gay communities to high levels of uncertainties as far as the Aids virus is concerned.
Intellectual fights begin as highlighted in the movies when the Virologist idea on the retrovirus is disputed on the ground of the founder and original details. The games of politics influence the move to find the routes of transmission of the Aids virus from the Center for Disease Control. Instead of the leaders merging their supreme ideas to find a solution, they seek political correctness from the federal government that seems to have neglected these prime idea of the epidemics control but rather fund their works and business with neglect to this public concern.
