Carra, I totally agree with you. All the provisions you have provided are serious violations by the counselors. For me, the most serious violations among your provisions are if the counselor performs certain activities without getting informed consent of the client. This may damage the counselor-client relationship (ACA, 2014). Another violation is if the client initiates a sexual or romantic relationship, this will as well damage the counselor-client relationship which is vital in the counseling profession.

You are right Tanya. Confidentiality is the foundation of the counseling process. The counselor has to mention confidentiality policies to assure the client that any confidential information will be kept secret (ACA, 2014). Without mentioning the policies the client may withhold important information that might be helpful in the process. Another important violation is if the counselor seeks to borrow money or other services other than therapy from the client. Doing so will create a conflict of interest which is not ethical in counseling.

Yes Lauren, the counselor must screen all group members to establish the appropriate treatment plan for them. Including clients into groups without assessing will be wastage of resources and the counselor does not consider the needs of the clients. Also, if the counselor does not allow full exploitation of conflict, this will create more barriers between them (ACA, 2014).

Bethanne, you are right, if the counselor imposes some values such as encouraging women to take up sexual roles and to remove their clothes during therapy sessions will cause more psychological harm to the clients especially those who value privacy of their private parts. This is purely unethical in the counseling profession (GCU, 2016).

Kateri, I must admit, I agree with you on this one. If the client lies about their qualifications, this is a serious violation. This will not only cause harm to the counselor but to the whole counseling profession since the clients will not have confidence in counselors. They will perceive them as unqualified and incompetent.
