How do the roles of nature and nurture differ in regard to learning? Which is more important, in your opinion? Support your answer using your reading and examples.
Psychologists have had heated debates of nature and nurture factors in regard to learning. Nature and nurture parameters play an important role in the learning process and they are often complimentary (Fairholm, 2012). However, in my opinion, nurture roles are more important regarding the learning process. The natural aspects are important but not as important as the nurture elements which play an important role in learning process. Nurture roles mainly consist of the environment and learning is largely dependent on the environment.
Physical attributes are overshadowed by the environment in the learning process. The environment a child grows up in greatly influences his/her character and efficacy of the learning process. This is greatly due to the nurture elements associated with the environment and thus the nature elements are overshadowed in the learning process. Nurture elements can also be attributed to the smart behavior witnessed in some animals after training. For instance, some dogs understand human language and are able to fit in human society and perform different tasks depending on their training. Some well nurtured and trained animals can perform highly cognitive tasks that are impossible for other animals in the same species.
Therefore, nurture elements in learning process take precedence in learning especially in humans. The human brain is not the biggest of all animals but the humans are the most intelligent. According to Hardy and Heyes (1999...
