Communication plans and methods are significantly affected when some members of the project team and even stakeholders are in different places or locations. Communication, especially in such a situation, needs most of the participants to be physically present at the place where the project is being initiated. This will help reduce and counter diverse communication complications and breakdowns that might arise in the entire communication process. Some of the issues associated with the communication that involves people who are in different locations include; delayed response, miscommunication, being unable to handle any emergency or responding to an urgent communication, poor connectivity when communicating caused by probably local internet providers, among others (“Clear communication among project stakeholders,” 2015). This implies that the flow of information among the stakeholders and other team members of the project might not be effective. As a result, this might end up affecting the project timeline.
Personally, I have never been part of any virtual team or taken part in a team project that involves virtual team members. However, I think in such a circumstance, adjustments need to be made in order for the project to accommodate and move together with every team member. This should be prioritized, especially when the team members are from different time zones. One of the best ways to accommodate the project’s team members in other locations is by involving them in the project’s meetings via Zoom. This has been a virtual meeting platform that has displayed a lot of success in many places.
