Consider a change that someone asked you to make AND which you initially felt some feelings of resistance. This could be from your work, school, or personal experience. Why did you initially not want to make the change?
When I was in high school I had two friends who my parents did not like. We sat together during lunchtime in school and we had become ‘untouchable.’ Our neighborhood had become a haven for drugs and more youth had become hooked up in abusing drugs. My parents warned me to specifically stop hanging out two of my closest friends at the time. I did not see the point of because I thought my parents were being ‘paranoid and overprotective’ and I could ‘take care of myself’ in case of anything. We often joked why our parents were ‘not cool’ because we did not see their reasoning as to why we ought to stop hanging out together. In our senior year, one of our teachers found them smoking marijuana in the school compound.
