How does it feel to live in an environment where one’s fundamental freedom is denied? How would it feel therefore, if these rights are again twitched and twisted depending on the circumstance? What is supposed to be the essence of life if not happiness? Why should one spend an entire lifetime in suffering and pain? These are just some of the questions that crop up when it comes to the issue of voluntary euthanasia, or assisted suicide. It is with three clear and vey sober reasons why voluntary euthanasia should be a welcome idea.
First, the freedom to make personal decisions and choices encompasses the single most important fundamental right of any individual. It should therefore be worth noting that violation of such a fundamental right is detrimental to the general essence of existence .It is a return to the dark days when human life was disregarded and taken as a commodity rather than something sacred. The right to make one’s own decisions should be upheld at any juncture.
Secondly, it is common knowledge, and well taught even in our education and religions, that life is meant to be enjoyed. Human beings work hard, go to school, toil, so as to enjoy the fruits at the end of it all. Therefore, there is no need to go through prolonged suffering, with false hopes of recovery.
