Introduction
The debate over making English the state's official language is centuries old in the United States. On the one hand, it idealizes social and economic benefits attached to its declaration as the official language. On the other hand, minority groups' protection becomes a severe concern. However, the current generation of immigrants has developed different socioeconomic ideals than its predecessors, anticipating a different approach to the problem. In contrast to the probable insecurity raised by official English supporting the government's economy, minorities can live even better social and financial life with more trust in criminal justice law. English should be the official language of the United States to unite the multicultural population, reduce the translator cost for the government, and make the criminal justice system more trustworthy, which will positively impact the different linguistic minorities in contrast to general idealism among them.
Discussion
English as an official language in the U.S. can unify the multicultural population for social and economic benefits. The diversity of minorities in the U.S. and their dedication to honoring their linguistic value in schools, workplaces, and federal institutes have made it difficult to understand each other. For example, a Hispanic can understand Hispanic, and a Spanish can understand Spanish. Putting people with different languages in a singular place for productive purposes becomes impossible regardless of their similar physical and mental capabilities. Besides, it limits education and employment. The students search racially compatible institutes for learning only because they are fluent in their native language. Likewise, everybody cannot apply for a post unless his linguistic skill matches the criteria, raising racial discrimination concerns. Brice uses the phrases "educational ghettos" and "employment ghettos" for the language-based discrimination prevailing in these organizations (Brice, 2014). The rejection of the English language on the official level has initiated the existence of these ghettos, and preventing linguistic reform will constantly maintain them at a social and economic disadvantage. This is why second-generation immigrants are frustrated by the limited employment options (Brice, 2014). The second generation immigrants have a better command of the English language; they understand it better than the native language of their forefathers. Hence, the continuous trend of linguistic-based employment has developed a sense of cultural bias among them, which thwarts the social and economic progress of the country. Thereby, announcing English as an official language of the U.S. will broaden opportunities for the present and coming generations of minorities with positive cultural and economic impacts on the country.
